Last year it was revealed that The Bourne Legacy – the Tony Gilroy-directed fourth instalment of the Jason Bourne saga – would not feature its namesake, but instead a new hero. Deadline has unveiled the shortlist of actors currently testing for the role, and it includes Australia’s own Joel Edgerton.
Also on the shortlist is Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia), Luke Evans (Tamara Drewe) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy).
Although Deadline reiterate a number of other actors will also test, these four are the first out of the gate. Frankly, Edgerton is the only one of the four with the chops to be a convincing action hero with some emotional depth (qualities that scored Matt Damon the role in the original trilogy).
